How Ontario vacation pay is estimated

Ontario sets a minimum of 4% of gross wages excluding vacation pay for employees with less than five years, and 6% at five or more years at the end of the vacation entitlement year or stub period.

Ontario’s guide also states that reaching five years during the period qualifies the wages in that period for 6%. Choose that explicit service band when it applies.

Worked example

A $16,000 Ontario gross-wages amount excluding vacation pay at 4% produces an estimated $640 vacation pay.
