Total wages and dates

BC section 58 uses total wages for the entitlement year. The calculator does not infer legal inclusions from an unreviewed payslip.

The period end determines whether the fifth anniversary has been reached. Use the employment year or other wage period reviewed for this estimate.

How this BC calculator is scoped

Mode A estimates total minimum vacation pay from BC total wages. Section 58 uses 4% after more than five calendar days and 6% after five consecutive years. The period end and employment start date determine which rate applies.

Mode B follows the official fifth-year example only when 4% vacation pay was paid on each payday and the fifth-year gross earnings are known. It shows a 2% adjustment and never labels that result as a balance due.

Worked examples

CAD 50,000 of supported BC total wages before the fifth anniversary produces CAD 2,000 at 4%; the same total after the fifth anniversary produces CAD 3,000 at 6%.

CAD 50,000 of fifth-year gross earnings in the narrow Mode B example produces a CAD 1,000 one-time adjustment at 2%.

Know the limits

Federal jurisdiction, termination and final-pay adjustments, collective or greater contract entitlements, special agreements, irregular fifth-year payments and disputed wage categories need a specific review.
